Man Utd signing bottom as Tottenham bargain tops charts – ranking this summer's best deals

The summer transfer window saw numerous records broken, with each ‘Big Six’ club splashing the cash in the hope of winning silverware this season. However, after just eight matches of the campaign played, it is already becoming clear that some signings are not meeting the mark in the Premier League.

The British transfer record was smashed twice over the course of the summer, with Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo joining Arsenal and Chelsea respectively for astronomical figures. Although the midfielders will have very different objectives in the short term, both players will be hoping to justify their incredible price tags over the coming years as the market rate continues to inflate.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool also conducted their own midfield revamps, but with varying results so far this season. Jurgen Klopp was willing to completely reshape his ranks at Anfield, with Ange Postecoglou and Erik ten Hag demanding only a sprinkling of fresh legs in that department.

Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Ham also signed players that featured in Transfermarkt’s 20 most expensive Premier League signings of the summer. Express Sport ranks how they have all fared at their new clubs so far…
