Manchester United have named their asking price for Mason Greenwood after deciding he has no future at Old Trafford, according to reports. The Red Devils are prepared to accept a cut-price fee compared to his peak valuation to avoid losing him for free on the expiry of his contract in 2025.
Express Sport understands that United have informed Greenwood that there is no way back for him at the club.
United figures hope Greenwood can relaunch his career elsewhere but have prepared a series of steps that will ultimately lead to his permanent departure.
The former Red Devils No 11 was thought to be worth north of £50m after emerging onto the scene under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and scoring 35 goals in 83 starts.
But his January 2022 arrest derailed his Old Trafford career, and mass backlash online amid reports that United chief executive Richard Arnold was set to sanction his return confirmed his future lay elsewhere.
Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour last year. He denied all allegations, and all charges were dropped in February.
United consider his career best-placed away from M16, though, and will look to oversee a permanent sale next summer once he completes his season-loan loan at Getafe.
According to TEAMTALK, United will demand between £17m and £22m if Greenwood enjoys a strong season in La Liga.
It’s a significant drop from what the Bradford-born forward was once valued at, but it indicates the club’s eagerness to at least recoup some sort of fee for a talent they have developed for almost two decades.
Getafe reportedly aren’t the only Spanish outfit keen to sign Greenwood permanently next summer.
