Man Utd left frustrated after Antoine Griezmann comment on Mason Greenwood

On-loan Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood was praised by Antoine Griezmann after shining for Getafe against Atletico Madrid. Greenwood, who is unlikely to ever play for the Red Devils again, caused plenty of problems for 10-man Atletico on Tuesday night.

Getafe have been on an incredible run and Greenwood has been at the heart of their success. His side have lost just one of their last 12 La Liga matches.

And the Madrid outfit enjoyed one of their best results of the season by holding title chasers Atletico to a 3-3 draw at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Greenwood was not on the scoresheet but was singled out for praise by his opponents. Griezmann admitted that their failure to stop the 22-year-old cost them two points.

“Mason Greenwood was really causing us problems in the second half,” the veteran Frenchman told Viaplay. “We couldn’t stop him and it cost us the game.”

Griezmann’s praise might prompt a sense of frustration among United fans. The Red Devils’ forwards have performed poorly this season, with Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund and Antony scoring just two Premier League goals between them this season.

Greenwood might have helped United’s cause this season but the decision was made for him to kickstart his career away from Old Trafford.

Earlier this year, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive behaviour against Greenwood. He denied all charges but, after an internal club investigation, it was decided that his career would be better served away from the club.
