Man Utd 'hold preliminary talks with golf club' as chiefs' Man City and Spurs view telling

Manchester United have reportedly held unsuccessful talks with a local golf club over building a new training ground on the site. Red Devils chiefs are believed to harbour concerns over the state of the facilities at their Carrington training base, believing that it falls below the standard of those boasted by Manchester City and Tottenham.

Carrington has been United’s training complex since 1999 and while regular updates have been made to the site, United chiefs reportedly believe that it is at maximum capacity for further upgrades. According to the Daily Mail, several golf clubs have been located in south Manchester as possible destinations.

The report claims that at least 100 acres of buildable land is required to build the kind of facilities that a club the size of United demand. Several Premier League rivals have built world-leading facilities since their move to Carrington 25 years ago, prompting a desire to catch up.
