Man Utd chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Mason Greenwood 'return stance' decides January U-turn

Ratcliffe and INEOS are expected to inherit sporting control from the Glazer family when the Premier League green-lights his investment, a decision likely to come next month.

Until then, the 71-year-old has started preparations in meetings at Old Trafford and United’s Carrington training complex.

INEOS have also had a presence at all three matches since the club announced the agreement on Boxing Day through Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc.

But United’s new sporting structure won’t have the power to execute decisions until the deal has been officially passed.

Once that time arrives, Ratcliffe and his confidants must make a crucial decision on Greenwood’s future after the storm created by his planned return last year.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, there will be no final decision this month despite the 22-year-old forward’s eye-catching exploits on loan at Getafe.

It’s claimed that Greenwood is settled at the La Liga outfit, where he was sent on deadline day in the summer after internal and external backlash thwarted since-departed chief executive Richard Arnold’s return plan.

Jacobs reports that there is unlikely to be any clarity on the situation until later in the year due to the sensitivity of the subject, removing the chance of anyone committing to a decision so soon.

Ratcliffe is said to be aware of and respect United’s six-month investigation into Greenwood after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour, all of which he denied, last February.

He is also reportedly conscious that multiple staff members raised concerns over the former Red Devils No 11 returning to Carrington.
