Manchester United and Chelsea are both reportedly considering a late move for Martin Braithwaite as a budget January transfer. The Espanyol striker previously joined Barcelona as an emergency striker after a spell in the Premier League with Middlesbrough.
Spanish outlet Marca claim that both English teams are tempted by the possibility of bolstering their strikeforce with Branthwaite, who would only cost in the region of £600,000.
Braithwaite does have a release clause in his Espanyol contract to the tune of £6million, but discussions are underway so that either Manchester United or Chelsea will only have to pay a nominal fee.
The Danish striker remained with second-tier Espanyol to help them return to La Liga, as progress is underway on a deal that would let Braithwaite leave for free if they fail to get promoted, but £600,000 should they be successful this campaign.
However, if Braithwaite were to leave in January to return to the Premier League he would be forced to pay out of his own pocket to fund the move, though his financial package would likely be considerably larger at two of the biggest clubs in the world.
Espanyol are currently fifth in Segunda and Braithwaite scored in Sunday’s 3-2 defeat away to Eldense, but the 32-year-old has attempted to leave the club previously and now could get his wish.
