Man sinks 2,000 pints in 200 days in epic drinking marathon – costing him £18k

A beer-lover claims to have finished his drinking challenge of sinking 2,000 pints in 200 days – leaving him £18,000 worse off.

Jon May has been downing an average of 10 pints a day for the past six-and-a-half months – with some jokingly dubbing him “the greatest athlete of our generation”.

The 25-year-old documented his progress on Tiktok, and was inspired to set himself the challenge when he saw a similar achievement on the video-sharing app.

He said: “I first got the idea when I saw someone on TikTok say they were going to drink 1,000 pints in a year and I thought… that’s only two a day.”

“So I upped that to 2,000 and wanted to do it quicker so I shortened it to 200 for the only reason that I thought it sounded good.”

Describing it as a “mildly impressive achievement” and “a very British thing to do”, Mr May has clocked up some impressive stats.

It is thought he would have consumed over 360,000 calories. While he claims to have spent just the £8,000 on lager, and a whopping £10,000 on Ubers to and from the pub.

His journey has gained him newfound fame, with his TikTok follower count rocketing up from 6,000 to 123,000.

He even claims he hasn’t had any hangovers during his quest.

He said: “I’m still young enough to not really get them.

“Also you have to be sober to get a hangover in the first place.”

However, he doesn’t recommend others do the same.

He said: “I know it’s probably not good for the liver, so I probably wouldn’t recommend it.”

He drank his 2,000th pint in the Market Tavern in Atherstone, Warwickshire, after the pub invited him to travel up for the occasion.

He said: “I usually opt for a Thatchers or a Magners but I have been drinking Madri too. I like both cider and beer.

“After this, I’m going to take a week off and then travel to cities across the country reviewing pints. People seem to like watching me in the pub.”

Mr May’s antics have drawn both praise and concern. Some branded him a “national treasure” and asked for him to be knighted, while others were worried about the “long-term health effects”.

The NHS website says men and women shouldn’t drink more than six pints of average strength beer a week on a regular basis – Mr May was averaging 42 pints over twenty-eight weeks.

He added: “I’m not too concerned about the health implications.”

He said he will go to the doctor’s “to make sure all is ok”, before easing up on the booze and “living a little healthier”.
