Man left speechless after coming home from shops and checking ring doorbell camera

A man has been left speechless after coming home from the shops and checking his ring doorbell camera.

Paul Lyon, from St Helens, had just returned from the shops when he received a knock on his door from two teenagers.

Mr Lyons was surprised to hear the teenagers ask if he’d dropped £180 and wanted to know if they could return it.

Mr Lyons was shocked by the act of kindness as the pair “easily could have walked off with the money”.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Mr Lyons said: “I’d gone the shop to get some stuf to make breakfast and decided to get some money out.

“As I got home, within 30 seconds I heard the doorbell so answered it and there was a young couple standing there.

“They asked me if I’d dropped any money and I didn’t know at the time but when I checked, I was missing the money.

“I thanked them and tried to give them some as a thank you but they wouldn’t accept anything.”

Mr Lyons added: “I checked the video doorbell back to see where I’d dropped the money, and the video before showed the couple walking down the road just behind me and they followed me behind to tell me I’d dropped the money.

“They quite easily could have walked off with the money and I would never have realised. I put a post on Facebook and it got a lot of attention. Some family members have messaged me to say they are so proud and they are only 17. I wasn’t expecting it.”

Mr Lyons said he could tell that the pair would have been gutted if the same incident had happened to them.

Later, the charitable pair were revealed to be a couple known locally as Jarrod and Charlie.

Helen Pye, Jarrod’s mother, said: “We’re all so proud of them both – even before this they are two of the loveliest and hardworking people you could ever meet.

“They are both exemplary students in Y13 at Rainford High School. They also do a lot outside school, Charlie has her own business.

“Jarrod volunteers at Dungeons of the North role-playing gaming community, where he runs games for teenagers each week.”

Charlie’s mother added: “We think she’s an amazing girl and we’re extremely proud of their actions.”
