Man in his 40s is killed in horror A13 crash sparking road closures


A man has died following a crash on a major London road.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene on the A13 Thames Gateway in Rainham at around 6am on Sunday.

Nothing could be done to save the man, who was in his 40s, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A number of vehicles were involved in the incident, which took place near the junction for Ferry Road.

No one else is believed to have been seriously injured in the incident.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed a second man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He is understood to remain in custody.

The road was closed to traffic for several hours while emergency services remained at the scene.

Photographs taken at the scene show a police forensics tent at the scene.

Elsewhere in London, the M4 motorway was closed for several hours following a crash near the Cranford Park Interchange at around 12pm.

One man was pronounced dead following that crash, with three others suffering serious injuries.
