Man heroically prised apart XL bully's jaw as it attacked spaniel

Hero Danny Eaves prised apart the jaw of an XL bully as it attacked a springer spaniel near to his home.

Danny was sitting at home at around 5.30pm on Monday, October 16, when he heard a noise outside. Once he looked out the window to check what was going on, he saw a person on the floor and an XL bully-type dog attacking a black springer spaniel.

The 43-year-old said he went straight outside, where he heard shouting and screaming, before putting his hands in the dog’s mouth, reports the ECHO. Danny said: “I just grabbed a pair of gloves and went straight out.

“I held onto the XL bully’s jaw and managed to release the dog to the owner so they could get it away. I took control of the dog [the XL bully] and walked it away, and to be fair they calmed down fairly well.

“It did shake me up a bit, there was a point where I had my hands in the dog’s mouth and thought ‘hang on, I’m the next target here’.”

Former security worker Danny, from Walton in Liverpool, said by “some miracle” he did not have a scratch on him following the incident. He added: “Everyone was quite animated, there was lots of shouting and screaming, but it’s understandable. I walked away with the owner of the XL bully and waited with him when he got a taxi from Queens Drive.

“I’m hoping it just had the dog by the skin on its neck, I didn’t see if the spaniel was okay as I had the XL bully. I’ve had dogs all my life so I’ve lost enough brain cells to run into something like that.”

Merseyside Police confirmed they were called to the incident on Monday and said the spaniel suffered minor injuries in the attack.
