Man fighting for life after being 'attacked with metal pole' outside MI6 building


A man is fighting for his life after he was attacked “with a metal pole” near the MI6 building. Police have taped off the area between Vauxhall Bridge and Albert Embankment, with Kennington Lane also closed following the early hours attack.

The attack happened at around 4am on Monday, January 29, with the 24-year-old being rushed to hospital with a serious head injury. 

A 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were arrested near to the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Both men remain in police custody. 

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 3:59am to reports of an incident on Albert Embankment, SE1.

“We sent two ambulance crews and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched a team from London’s Air Ambulance. We treated a man at the scene before taking him to a major trauma centre.

“Another person was assessed and discharged at the scene.”

CCTV from nearby shows a number of people in the area, and detectives are asking for all those who saw the incident but have yet to come forward to contact police by calling 101 and quoting CAD 1204/01Oct.
