Man City star Jeremy Doku sends terrifying warning to Prem rivals ahead of Tottenham clash

Jeremy Doku has warned Manchester City’s rivals that he can get even better, despite making an electric start to life at the Etihad Stadium. The Belgian plans to improve his impact in the final third while working under Pep Guardiola, whose side host Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Doku was already a full Belgian international with four seasons of senior experience under his belt by the time City forked out £55.5million to lure him away from Rennes in the summer.

The extent to which the 21-year-old hit the ground running has still taken many by surprise, however. Providing a powerful burst of acceleration and dancing feet on the left-hand side, Doku has forced fellow winger Jack Grealish into a tough fight for first-team minutes.

Worryingly for the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool – City’s main title competitors – the former Anderlecht star feels that improving certain aspects of his game will make him even more effective.

“I think I have made a good start,” he said. “I can always be better, be more efficient and help the team more in the final third. Those are some parts of the game that I can still work on, so it’s not perfect. [Guardiola] can take me to the next level.

“That’s also why I took this chance to come here because I know the manager and I know how he can help me to reach the top. He helps me a lot, especially on the details and he lets me be myself because you can see on the pitch that I am just being myself.

Doku has registered two goals and five assists in 10 Premier League appearances so far this campaign. He may get the opportunity to add to that haul when Spurs rock up to the Etihad on Sunday.

Facing Ange Postecoglou’s side would have been a terrifying prospect this time last month, but injuries to key players have brought about a torrid run of three consecutive defeats for the north Londoners.
