Major update in search for Gaynor Lord as police divers pull body from river

Police divers searching for missing mum Gaynor Lord have pulled a body in a black bag from a river. Two specialist divers assisting with the search for Ms Lord, 55, pulled the body from the River Wensum at about 12pm.

The divers removed the body from the water next to the orange buoy, which had been positioned in the river on Friday.

Ms Lord’s family has been made aware of the discovery.

A Norfolk police spokeswoman said: “Police searching for missing Norwich woman Gaynor Lord can confirm a body has been found in the River Wensum.

“The body was found in the river by underwater search teams this morning and has now been recovered from the water.

“While the body hasn’t formally been identified, Gaynor’s family have been informed. They continue to be supported by specially trained officers.”

It comes after dive teams had been drafted in from Lancashire Fire and Rescue and the Environment Agency to search the river in the New Mills Yard area, which is almost a mile from Wensum Park where police have been carrying out sonar searches.

The team was investigating the drains in the area using a camera on a stick.

Searches have also been taking place in the river close to the Ribs of Beef pub in the city’s Magdalen Street. However, some reports have suggested divers in other parts of the river have now returned to land following the discovery.

It comes after a spokeswoman from Norfolk police told the Express searches would be continuing “indefinitely” in the River Wensum.

Police have previously said there is a high probability Ms Lord entered the water.

It comes after she went missing last Friday after she left her work at the Jarrolds department store in London Street more than an hour early at 2.46pm and has not been seen since.

CCTV footage showed her walking to Norwich Cathedral, where she stayed for about half an hour, before walking back along Queen Street and a number of other areas in the city before being last sighted in St Augustines Street.

Her belongings including clothing, two rings, a mobile phone and glasses, were found scattered in Wensum Park, more than one and a half miles from her workplace.

A member of the public also claims to have seen Ms Lord practising yoga in the park shortly after she was last seen on CCTV.
