M53 crash: Woman seriously injured and '50 children treated' after school coach overturns


Nearly 50 people have been injured and one woman ‘suffering major trauma-related injuries’ has been taken to hospital after a school bus crashed on a UK motorway this morning. 

Police, ambulance and fire services raced to the scene this morning on the M53 motorway near Ellsemere Port, Merseyside, around 8am.

The fire service said a ‘number of casualties’ had been reported and the ambulance service confirmed ‘nearly 50’ patients were treated at the scene. 

Emergency services said the bus reportedly ‘hit a central reservation and flipped over’ with a serious female casualty, believed to be the driver taken to hospital.
