M40 closed in both directions 'for hours' after air ambulance rushes to horror crash


Parts of the M40 is shut to traffic in both directions following a crash in Buckinghamshire today (Sunday, January 22). The incident involved multiple vehicles and is set to close the motorway for “several hours”. The closure is in place between Junction 5 for Stokenchurch and Junction 4 for High Wycombe. The incident was first reported by Inrix, the traffic data company, at around 8.37am.

Traffic is currently at a standstill as a result of the incident. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and find a different route.

Inrix said: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to multi-vehicle accident on M40 Southbound from J5 A40 Ibstone Road (Stokenchurch) to J4 A404 (High Wycombe Handy Cross Roundabout).” Follow our dedicated feed below for the latest updates as soon as they’re available.
