M4 traffic LIVE: Huge crash near Prince of Wales Bridge shuts motorway with severe delays

Queues are growing on the M4 near the Severn Bridge as a serious crash has forced the road to close. The incident happened in the early hours of this morning (December 4).

National Highways traffic cameras show drivers halted on the stretch after a collision between a lorry and a car between junction 22 (M49) and junction 21 (M48). Emergency crews are on the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed its officers are dealing with a “serious injury collision”, with holidaymakers attempting to reach Bristol Airport warned of chaos on the roads.

A Highways England spokesperson said: “The #M4 is CLOSED eastbound between J22 M49 and J21 M48 due to a multi vehicle collision. Emergency services are on scene. More info to follow.” Delays are reportedly up to an hour, with a likelihood that this time scale may grow.
