Luke Littler was angrily confronted by Ricardo Pietreczko after their Belgian Darts Open semi-final on Sunday night. The teenager dominated the contest and notched a handsome 7-3 victory, but his German opponent evidently took issue with Littler’s confident antics during the course of the match.
Littler has displayed some of his finest form in Wieze, overcoming mind games and high-quality opponents to battle his way to the final. Jose de Sousa was cast aside in the first round before a curious match against Krzysztof Ratajski, during which the Pole drank from Littler’s water bottle, went the youngster’s way.
‘The Nuke’ then took revenge against Damon Heta after suffering a painful defeat against the Aussie at the UK Open earlier this month, before averaging a dizzying 110 in his quarter-final win over Jermaine Wattimena.
The Dutchman was gracious in defeat, holding Littler’s arm aloft after a superb performance. But the 2007-born prodigy would receive no such classy gesture after outmuscling Pietreczko.
Littler gave no reaction after hitting his favourite double 10 to clinch the match, calmly walked up to the board to collect his darts, and turned around to see an angry Pietreczko walking towards him while shaking his head.
Pietreczko and Littler almost went head to head while shaking hands, with the German angrily making his feelings known right in the face of the youngster. Littler looked up at the crowd and pointed to Pietreczsko with a baffled expression.
As the world number 36, nicknamed ‘Pikachu’, made a hasty exit from the stage, Littler was seen mouthing ‘get out’. He later explained: “No idea what I did wrong, no idea what he said. He said something then [said] don’t do it again.”
