Luke Littler shunned by second Premier League rival after rejecting Luke Humphries' idea

He joins Michael van Gerwen in turning down the idea of helping guide Littler. When asked if the Dutchman felt protective of his new rival, he replied: “Really? Of course not. Welcome to the big boys. He is not a youth player any more. Those days are gone. Of course, he’s still only a kid, but now you have got to battle against each other on the stage and there cannot be any mercy whatsoever.”

Despite being on the same page as Van Gerwen in their plan not to join Humphries in helping Littler, Wright has been full of praise for the World Championship runner-up. “Luke has inspired me and what he’s done for the game, all the press, sponsors. It’s fantastic for the darts,” he added.

“It’s also fantastic for all the young players to be inspired. You haven’t got to be 50 years old to go and be a world champion. It’s given belief for kids.”
