Luke Humphries 'fancies I'm a Celeb stint' after beating Luke Littler in World Darts final

Luke Humphries has opened the door to appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in future after winning his first World Darts Championship title. The 28-year-old defeated Luke Littler in Wednesday’s final to get his hands on the biggest prize in darts, winning five straight sets to battle back from 4-2 down.

Humphries also scooped £500,000 in prize money as a result of his triumph, which came after he won last year’s World Grand Prix, Players Championship and Grand Slam of Darts. He is now being tipped to follow in the footsteps of Eric Bristow and Andy Fordham by delving into the world of reality TV off the back of his latest success.

Speaking to GB News, Humphries joked that he would fancy the idea of going on I’m a Celebrity if he had to pick between that, Strictly Come Dancing or Big Brother. But he was quick to insist that he is currently too busy with darts to think about anything else, saying: “I’m not sure there would be room in the busy darts schedule for much else than darts right now.”

Humphries added that he was not too bothered about being recognised as a celebrity, with darts still very much at the forefront of his mind. However, he insisted that he was excited to meet the Prime Minister after being invited to Downing Street in the wake of his triumph at Alexandra Palace.

“I’ve got lots of commitments to fulfil and I will be meeting Rishi Sunak tomorrow [Friday] which will be amazing,” he added. “But I’m not hugely interested in fame or being on the front of newspapers. I just love darts. I now want to be a good ambassador for the sport and for the PDC, and I want to try and become one of the game’s greatest players.”

Humphries was full of praise for Littler in the immediate aftermath of his victory, with the teenager lighting up the world of sport before falling at the last hurdle on Wednesday night. He was one dart away from taking a 5-2 lead but the experience of facing Humphries on the biggest stage proved to be a step too far in the end.

“Luke showed incredible grit, incredible determination,” said Humphries. “We will never, ever see the likes of him again. To go up on that stage in a world final and produce those darts. I was putting him under so much pressure.

“I love the kid to bits and I hope that he’s in the Premier League and plays in everything because I would love to share the stage with him a lot more. Obviously the crowd wanted Luke to win and I couldn’t begrudge them that because it would have been a fantastic story had he won the tournament. What an incredible story would that have been for our sport.”
