Luke Humphries booed at Premier League Darts as Cardiff crowd back Luke Littler

The Premier League Darts crowd harshly booed Luke Humphries’ arrival on stage for his clash with Luke Littler on Thursday. Humphries defeated the extremely popular Littler in January’s World Darts Championship final, making him the pantomime villain for their Premier League Darts rematch.

“Humphries doesn’t deserve to be booed just because he is playing Littler. Poor from cardiff lot,” said one fan.

Another added: “Can’t help but feel bad for Humphries:disappointed. World champion getting booed.”

It was pointed out that Humphries had worked hard to reach the Premier League stage. One X user said: “Poor f****** Humphries man, four majors on the bounce, world champion and he’s getting booed.”

“Do not get why they boo Luke Humphries he seems like such a nice bloke,” added another.

The Premier League Darts sees eight of the sport’s best players compete in a mini tournament every Thursday evening. Despite ranking as one of the top performers, Humphries was left out of the competition last year.

He added that the setback prompted him to work harder, a catalyst for which he is now thankful. The 28-year-old is determined to keep his spot as the top-ranked player in the world.

“I was left out last year and I felt like I should have been in it with the way I performed at the back end of the year,” Humphries said. “But, the made the right decision to not put me in and I made the right decision to practise, practise after that.

“I think ultimately I made the right decision and that was to not let it affect me. It made me a better person, a better player, and was the right thing for my career.

“I am now world No. 1, world champion, and I am much better equipped to be a part of it. It is never going to go your way for all 16 weeks but I am going to make sure there are more good weeks than bad.”
