Lorraine Kelly today begged for the nation to “leave Princess Kate alone” over the conspiracy theories her edited family photo has caused. However, Meghan Markle has said she suffered a mental health crisis, a miscarriage and “cyber-bullying” while pregnant – and some fans are questioning why Lorraine never told the public to back off when it was her being attacked.
“Yes #Lorraine I’m calling you out.. why didn’t you say leave Megan alone?” one furious fan quizzed on Twitter. “Look how many years of abuse [Meghan had from trolls] and it only took two days [for you to say] they should leave [Princess Kate] alone. Hypocrite much? Double standards,” they huffed.
“It’s not fair, she doesn’t need this” LOL what about when the media are hounding Meghan? I suppose that’s ok though? #Lorraine,” another follower exclaimed. A third took to the social media site to exclaim: “Just leave her, says Lorraine, who never leaves Meghan alone. Ask why William hasn’t defended his wife.”
Meanwhile, others accused Lorraine of a different kind of hypocrisy, complaining that she was addressing the photo while asking others not to. “We should stop talking about that photo and let Kate get on with her life says #Lorraine who then has a segment on her show talking about exactly that,” one viewer tweeted.
Another then echoed: “Ah, Lorraine now doing a piece on that photo. She thinks we should just leave them alone to get on with their lives. After doing a piece on them. On national TV. “That sums up the talking heads, they can make hay and money from the story, we have to shut up. Hypocrites.”
“Has she not just told us to, leave Kate alone, but she continues to talk about it herself!! One rule for Lorraine, another for her minions,” a third blasted.
Another wrote that they “couldn’t stand” Lorraine’s stance of sympathising with the royals.
Meanwhile, someone else was concerned that the photo had been made the centre of the attention when wars were raging on in conflict zones.
“There are thousands of children dying in Gaza and Kate’s family photo is headline news? It’s ridiculous,” the follower agonised.
Although some insisted the photo was irrelevant, others have shown concern for her wellbeing as only the altered version of the photo has appeared since Princess Kate had her abdominal surgery.
Kate – who hasn’t been pictured outside in public since Christmas Day 2023 – released an apology over the photo yesterday morning.
As headlines broke around the world, she explained: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.
“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”
