Loose Women's Jane Moore issues swipe at royals 'Know more about them than my own family'

Jane Moore suggested the public have got more of an insight into the royals than ever before.

The Royal Family has been hit with a wave of personal battles from King Charles being diagnosed with a form of cancer following the monarch undergoing surgery for an enlarged prostate. In addition, Princess Kate recently underwent abdominal surgery at a London Clinic last month and is now resting at her four-bedroom cottage in Windsor.

The columnist, 61, suggested the lines between royal and monarch have become blurred in recent months amid the various public declarations, most notably from Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, and suggested “overworked” Prince William could do with some help from famous faces.

Writing in The Sun, Jane said: “After all, the line between the monarchy and celebrity has become increasingly blurred since the death of the inscrutable ‘never complain, never explain’ Queen Elizabeth II and, thanks to Prince Harry’s memoir Spare Us, I feel I know more about the Windsors than my own family.”

The Loose Women panellist suggested the royals could enlist the help of Christopher Biggins, Paul Gascoigne, Alan Titchmarsh and Johnny Depp.

She jokingly remarked: “The opening of a sports centre? Gazza would go down a storm with the locals.

“A tree planting ceremony? Alan Titchmarsh would be a shoo-in. And as for naming ships, well, retired pirate Johnny Depp isn’t doing much else these days.”

Her comments come as the King temporarily stepped down from his royal duties while he undergoes treatment for cancer.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “Regrettably, a number of the King’s forthcoming public engagements will have to be rearranged or postponed.

“His Majesty would like to apologise to all those who may be disappointed or inconvenienced as a consequence.”

It added that he “looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible”.

The Prince of Wales has since resumed his duties after taking a short break to support his wife, the Princess of Wales.
