Locals fume as UK seaside village with a beautiful beach is being ruined by dog poo

A stunning beach on a famous stretch of coast is being blighted by dog poo, fuming locals say.

The seaside village of Skinningrove has hit the headlines recently as it features a stunning “hidden” beach that visitors are raving about – with free parking and dolphin sightings.

But although many locals love tourists seeing their beloved village through fresh eyes, they’re also absolutely fed up with poo that’s being left behind by lazy dog walkers.

Heather Mitchell, 59, has always lived in the little coastal village and oversees her mum’s local store Sheila’s just next to the seafront.

She loves the area and says she feels very lucky to live there – but says that people leaving behind dog mess is becoming a real issue.

Grandmother Heather said: “It’s nice to watch the holidaymakers look at the village through fresh eyes as I have lived here all my life. But I don’t take it for granted.”

She added: “The beach is for everyone to enjoy. But we do have a terrible problem with dog dirt. People are disrespectful – people have got to walk across there with children.”

Express.co.uk spoke to another local, who didn’t wish to be named, who was less happy about tourists visiting.

The nana, who is 60, has lived in the village all her life also said that the village is being ruined by the dog mess being left behind.

She said: “Kids can’t get houses here now and there is dog poo all over the beach.”

The villager added: “In the summer the traffic is horrendous – it is very, very busy.

“But I do think that we are blessed to live like this. People say it’s absolutely beautiful and it is lovely. Everybody helps each other.”

One travel blogger – The Yorkshire Dad of Four – also absolutely loves the beach – but also warned others about the dog poo issue.

Blogging about the stretch of sand he said: “I’ll be honest, there are plenty of dog waste bins along here but they don’t appear to be well used!

“Do not let this put you off, just keep going.”
