Mohamed Salah turned down substantial Saudi Arabia interest in the summer, but whether he wants to make that same decision once again in favour of a Liverpool without the only head coach he has known in his time at the club remains to be seen.
If Salah does depart, Alonso would certainly be in favour of Leverkusen star man Florian Wirtz as his replacement. The 20-year-old has been a long-term Reds target, but could cost as much as £95million with the Bundesliga side resigned to losing their wonderkid.
Liverpool would have a significant advantage over their rivals in pursuit of Wirtz if Alonso was to head to Anfield, potentially linking up with the forward who has spearheaded their title challenge.
