Liverpool win Carabao Cup final vs Chelsea as Virgil van Dijk eases Jurgen Klopp concerns

Liverpool thank Caoimhin Kelleher for heroics

Liverpool’s cup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher came to their rescue in the first half to prevent what appeared to be an imminent opener for Cole Palmer. Nicolas Jackson had burst into the box and the ball bobbled back to Palmer who was just a few yards out with the goal gaping.

However, from seemingly out of nowhere Kelleher produced a huge left hand to stop the shot from close distance, with his team-mates aware of the importance of the save and immediately thanked him.

In the 85th minute, Conor Gallagher was through on goal with only Kelleher standing in his way of glory, but the 25-year-old was quickly at the midfielder’s feet and stood tall to thwart a golden opportunity.

In Alisson’s absence, Kelleher was an assured presence throughout and once again proved to be one of the top number-twos in world football.
