Liverpool target Leroy Sane has already made feelings clear about working for Jurgen Klopp

Leroy Sane has already given his verdict on working for Jurgen Klopp amid reports Liverpool want to sign him. Klopp has tried twice before to sign the Germany star and will be hoping it is third time lucky.

Liverpool face the realistic prospect of losing Mohamed Salah in the near future. They fought off interest from the Saudi Pro League late in the summer transfer window.

Al-Ittihad were prepared to pay up to £200million for the Egypt superstar. Interest will return in January but Liverpool will hope to convince Salah to stay until the end of the current season.

Salah will need replacing and Sane could be chosen to fill the void. The Mirror reports that Liverpool are prepared to make the 27-year-old their most expensive signing of all time.

The Bayern Munich star has had a great start to the season, with seven goals in nine matches in the Bundesliga and Champions League. Klopp will be hoping to bring him back to the Premier League, four years after he left City.

And Sane has already hinted he would be open to working under Klopp, having praised his compatriot’s impact at Anfield. In an interview in January 2018, Sane confirmed Liverpool tried to sign him before he joined City from Schalke.

He told the Guardian: “Yes, I was also talking with them. Jurgen was calling me too, talking to me. That was before I joined City.

“He did a good job at Dortmund – I met him when he was there. He’s a good guy, nice guy – honest. He [has] worked well with Liverpool.”

Klopp also tried to lure Sane away from Schalke when he was still in charge of Borussia Dortmund. But the winger could not be convinced to join Schalke’s bitter rivals.

He said: “Yes, there was a time when I was still in the academy that I could have gone [to Dortmund] from Schalke but there was no thoughts at all to move to a rival. I have no regrets at all.”

Liverpool’s current record signing is Darwin Nunez, who joined from Benfica in 2022 for a fee worth up to £85million if all add-ons are reached. Sane has just over 18 months remaining on his contract but Bayern won’t be prepared to let him go on the cheap.

Losing Salah would be a monumental blow for Liverpool. But Klopp will hope that can be softened by finally getting his hands on Sane.
