Liverpool injury crisis deepens as Jurgen Klopp duo ruled out of Carabao Cup final

Liverpool’s injury crisis has reportedly deepened as Jurgen Klopp is set to be without another two stars for their Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday, in Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones. The pair were forced off in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Brentford and their injuries leave the Reds threadbare before a trip to Wembley.

It has been reported that both Jota and Jones will be unavailable after undergoing initial tests on their knee and ankle injuries respectively, ruling them out of a quick return. Darwin Nunez is also a doubt after coming off at half-time on Saturday.

The Uruguayan, alongside goalkeeper Alisson, face a battle to be fit at Wembley. The Brazilian stopper is hopeful that he can be between the posts in search of their first piece of silverware of the season, but his injury could keep him out for as long as another month.

Alisson may not even be fit before March’s international break and Caoimhin Kelleher could keep his place in the Carabao Cup and for Liverpool’s blockbuster clash with Manchester City on March 10.

Reports out of Portugal claim that Jota is facing up to two months out, though Liverpool are awaiting further tests to determine the timeline for his and Jones’ rehabilitation.

Ahead of Luton’s trip to Anfield on Wednesday and a cup final a few days later, Klopp’s Liverpool are walking wounded with another four key players added to their already lengthy injury list.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has already been ruled out of Sunday’s final after suffering a reoccurrence of his knee injury, while Dominik Szoboszlai has also been sidelined with a hamstring issue. He does has a chance of featuring at Wembley in one small positive for Liverpool.

Joel Matip is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery and Thiago played just five minutes on his return before picking up another injury that rules him out for several more weeks.

Youngsters Stefan Bajcetic and Ben Doaks also remain unavailable, with the former making just two appearances this season and the latter recently undergoing ankle surgery, stretching Klopp’s squad to its limit.
