Liverpool have another reason to feel aggrieved after their 2-1 defeat Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday night. The Reds were reduced to nine men in the clash but Destiny Udogie stayed on the pitch for Spurs when according to new rules he should have also seen red.
Udogie was shown a yellow card moments before Cody Gakpo netted Liverpool’s equaliser at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Italian full-back was fouled by Diogo Jota in the 69th minute and was then seen turning to referee Simon Hooper gesturing for a yellow card to be given to his opponent.
Hooper obliged giving Jota his first yellow card before the Liverpool forward was sent off for a second booking moments later. However, Liverpool will feel that Udogie should have been booked again and sent off due to a new rule introduced this season.
During their opening Premier League game of the season against Chelsea referee Anthony Taylor issued six yellow cards. Despite being fouled Nicolas Jackson and Alexis Mac Allister both received bookings during the match for indicating that their opponent should have been booked.

It was reported that they both received bookings due to a new rule change this season, introduced to stop players telling officials what actions they should take. Liverpool were left furious against Tottenham after receiving two controversial red cards and having a perfectly good goal disallowed by VAR before Spurs took all three points after a last-gasp Joel Matip own goal.
Luis Diaz thought he had given Liverpool the opening goal, only for a quick VAR decision to disallow the goal for offside. However, it later transpired that a VAR gaffe had wrongly ruled out the goal with replays showing that Cristian Romero’s boot had kept Diaz onside.
