Liverpool handed hope of Jurgen Klopp U-turn despite iconic boss needing 'a complete break

Sam Allardyce believes that the talented young prospects coming through the Liverpool ranks could persuade Jurgen Klopp to remain at the club beyond this summer. The German announced in January that he would be leaving the Reds at the end of the season and is keen to bow out by leading his side to Premier League glory.

Klopp revealed earlier this year that he had ‘run out of energy’ in the Anfield dugout and thus felt it was the right time for him to move on. The ex-Borussia Dortmund boss insisted that it was his duty to leave on his own terms as he knew that it was unlikely he would ever be sacked by the club as they have stood by him through thick and thin.

The announcement has prompted Liverpool to scour the market for Klopp’s successor, with numerous options being assessed. Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is the favourite to fulfil the role, with both Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi being considered as alternatives.

However, former Newcastle and West Ham boss Allardyce believes that Klopp could be persuaded to remain at the club beyond the summer by the higher powers at Liverpool due to the talented crop of players that he is working with.

He told William Hill: “When it comes to the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s departure, you can’t keep something like that under wraps forever – it was bound to come out sooner or later. It was sorted before Christmas, but they obviously kept it quiet for a bit although I thought they’d have wanted to keep it quiet until the end of the season.

“I absolutely understand it; management takes its toll. I think the club should try to change his mind but whether or not they actually will is another matter. I just think he needs a complete break from managing Liverpool, especially given his style of management.
