Liverpool eye up January bargain bin as scouts 'fly out to watch' £7m winger in action

If the Reds view Sonko as the forward signing that they need then it could allow them to splash the cash in other areas, making a considerable saving by landing Sonko for £7m as opposed to spending big on a more established star.

An anterior cruciate ligament injury to Joel Matip has ruled him out for the remainder of the season and reinforced Liverpool’s need to strengthen at the back, as Jurgen Klopp now has just Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah to call upon alongside Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defence.

While Alexis Mac Allister has been forced to play in a deeper role as the club only have Wataru Endo as a recognised holding midfielder, potentially with a view to recruiting another player in that position in either January or the following summer.
