Liverpool assistant made risky Jurgen Klopp offer if Trent Alexander-Arnold change failed

Lijnders has been linked with succeeding Klopp in the Anfield dugout in the future, and implementing the tactical tweak on Alexander-Arnold would evidence claims that he could prove a success in Merseyside if given the reins of the Reds.

However, that does not appear to be on the mind of the assistant manager, who praised the work of Klopp and how he has transformed Liverpool as a club. He said: “If you look at the past in football. Arrigo Sacchi changed the way of thinking, training and playing at AC Milan. Louis Van Gaal did the same with Ajax and Johan Cruyff did the same at Barcelona.

“They all had the ability to change the whole club, the way to look at football. I think Jurgen has done the same for Liverpool. There’s not many who can say that. I really hope this club continues leading in this way with their playing style.”
