Little boy's heartbreak as callous thieves steal bikes worth £11k from family home

A young boy was left heartbroken after thieves stole motorbikes worth nearly £11k from his dad’s workshop.

Crooks broke into the Shaw family home in the Cornish village of Dobwalls at around 3.30am on October 22.

His father Nathan suspected that the culprits waited on the grounds of a primary school opposite before striking in the dead of night.

They made off with three bikes – his £9,000 KTM 350 SX-F, a £1,600 Yamaha PW50 and a £300 Revvi Electric Balance.

The latter two are both used by Nathan’s sons, with eldest Hunter, five, who is looking to enter competitions later this year.

However, unless the bikes are returned or can be replaced, he may not be able to.

Nathan, a stay-at-home dad, said: “As a family we are gutted. The children are distraught.

“Hunter keeps asking when the bad men will bring the bikes back. It’s difficult to hear. Motorbiking is his outlet.

“We were about to uprgrade his bike so he could start doing competitions, but I don’t know how we will do that now.

“I am struggling to sleep every night knowing how easily they popped that lock – especially as it’s the same type of lock on our front door.”

Nathan, who also shares youngest son Aksel, three, with wife Chantelle Shaw, claims this kind of crime is becoming an epidemic in Cornwall.

He said: “This is happening so much here and in the country in general at the moment. Every single day you hear about it.

“To have these monsters of the night come and nick stuff is just a disgrace.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said it is investigating the burglary and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A relative has launched a GoFundMe to buy Hunter a new bike: https://www.gofundme.com/f/replace-hunters-stolen-bikes.
