Lightning tracker LIVE: Thunderstorm warnings pepper UK as chaos to break heatwave streak

Thunderstorms are set to batter the UK with several weather warnings in place from the Met Office. They are set to inflict more chaos and break the current heatwave streak much of the UK has enjoyed this weekend. The UK map has been dotted with yellow thunderstorm warnings that are in place for the East Midlands, East of England, London & South East England, North West England, South West England, Wales and the West Midlands.

These warnings, in place from noon until 9pm, warn of up to 30mm of rain being dumped on some areas of the country in an hour with the potential for 60-80 mm or more in a few hours where thunderstorms align for a time.

The Met Office has also warned in some affected areas, “frequent lightning and hail are likely to be additional hazards”.

This series of thunderstorms would break the glorious sunshine enjoyed by millions of Britons over the weekend, with temperatures surging to as high as 30C.
