Lightning tracker live map shows storms hit UK after Met Office issues series of alerts

Here is the latest, combined forecast from MeteoGroup and the Met Office.

A clear and dry start to the night for Wales, the midlands and south west England and rather overcast for northern areas.

Throughout the night, this band of cloud will move south-westwards though it is unlikely to bring any significant showers. Light winds in northern areas, moderate elsewhere.

Thursday will see some sunshine, but showers breaking out quite widely, potentially heavy and slow-moving in places with hail and thunder. Light winds, and near average temperatures.

Friday is forecast to be a dry, but overcast day for much of the country with some persistent showers in eastern areas. Showers will ease somewhat as they move southward.

Saturday looks to be a dry day as cloud becomes increasingly sparse throughout the day. Moderate winds in southern areas.
