Lee Anderson held Richard Tice talks sparking fresh speculation of defection bombshell

Lee Anderson held private talks with Reform UK leader Richard Tice after losing the Tory whip, according to reports.

The Ashfield MP met the leader of the insurgent party at a Holiday Inn Hotel off the M1 in South Normanton, Derbyshire, on Sunday, GB News reported.

It comes amid speculation over whether the former Tory deputy chairman will defect to the Nigel Farage-linked party.

Mr Anderson has been at the centre of an Islamophobia row after claiming “Islamists” had “got control” of London Mayor Sadiq Khan after months of tensions over pro-Palestine protests.

He lost the Conservative whip on Saturday after refusing to apologise for the comments.

“Of course I want to be back in the party but I stand by the things I said last week and I won’t apologise.”

Mr Tice has hinted that Mr Anderson would be welcome in the party, which is largely attracting dissatisfied 2019 Tory voters.

In a statement earlier this week, he insisted he would not give a “running commentary” but said MPs “have my number”.
