Lebanon war fears explode as anti-tank missiles smash into Israel and injure civilians

IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said on X: “Terrorists launched anti-tank missiles at the Dubov area a short time ago.

“Several civilians were injured as a result of the shooting. IDF forces attacked the sources of the shooting with artillery.

“In addition, IDF forces recently attacked a launch squad that planned to fire from a civilian area in Lebanese territory.”

Hagari added: “Also, an IDF remotely manned aircraft attacked during the night a terrorist squad that tried to launch anti-tank missiles towards Israeli territory near the Metula area.”

The IDF has been clashing with Hezbollah militants since the start of Israel’s war on Hamas over a month ago.

In a statement issued following the attack, Hezbollah claimed the strike caused the death of members of the “Israeli Occupation Force (IOF).”

They said: “The targeting of an armoured bulldozer belonging to the IOF army near the Dovev Barracks with ATGMs, which led to its destruction, the death of its crew, and several confirmed casualties among the soldiers present around it, including fatalities and injuries.”

The IDF has so far not confirmed any death following the missile attack.

Hezbollah’s persistent blitzes have fueled fears of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict potentially expanding to Lebanon, where the Shia Islamist militant group has an extensive following.

The attack comes a day after Hezbollah chief said his fighters have introduced new weapons, including a missile with a heavy warhead in the ongoing fighting along the Lebanon-Israel border, adding that they will keep using the tense frontier to pressure Israel.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah also blasted the United States over the Israel-Hamas war, saying it is the only country that can stop Israel’s wide offensive on the Gaza Strip but doesn’t do so.

He said attacks on US troops in Iraq and Syria will continue until the war in Gaza comes to an end.

Hezbollah officials say that by attacking Israeli posts along the border, the Iran-backed group is keeping three Israeli army divisions busy at a time when Israeli troops are pushing into the Gaza Strip where more than 11,000 people have been killed over the past five weeks, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.
