Lazio staff storm pitch after keeper scores epic 95th minute Champions League equaliser

Lazio staff stormed the pitch to celebrate as goalkeeper Ivan Provedel scored an epic 95th-minute equaliser in the Italian club’s opening Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid. The visitors had been on their way to a crucial three points, before the stopper charged up the pitch and took matters into his own hands.

A corner had initially been cleared with time running out for Lazio, before Provedel latched onto a cross as he got to the ball before his opposite number and his bullet header sent the crowd into raptures.

The Olimpico celebrated wildly as Provedel could not believe that he had scored his side’s dramatic late equaliser, sprinting to the middle of the pitch back towards his own goal as staff members could be seen charging towards the centre-circle as the referee blew the full-time whistle.

Pablo Barrios had given the visitors their initial lead in the 29th minute, with the Serie A side hoping to claim what would be a vital point in a group alongside Celtic and Feyenoord, as a point against the likely group favourites would be a positive outcome thanks to their goalkeeper

Provedel became just the fourth goalkeeper in the tournament’s history to score a goal – and only the second in open play having beaten Jan Oblak in the Atletico goal.
