Latest weather map shows giant 650-mile wall of snow stretching from Scotland to London


New weather maps show a giant 650-mile wall of snow to hit England, stretching from London to the north coast of Scotland.

WXCharts has forecast the wintry weather to come to the UK, alongside low temperatures and some rain, in a fortnight on January 16.

Snow is possible along most of the east coast of the UK and the north coast of Scotland, with snow depths of up to 2cm an hour in places.

There could also be some snow in Wales and the south coast of England, but this is more patchy and fast-moving.

North Scotland will see temperatures as low as -6C; southern Scotland and northern England will get -3C; the Midlands, north Ireland and Wales seeing down to -2C and the south coast will get 0C.

For the rest of today, there will be outbreaks of heavy rain and strong winds gradually clearing eastwards, but remaining cloudy in the southeast. It will be mostly dry elsewhere with some clear spells and coastal showers. The early hours will see light winds leading to patchy frost and fog.

Friday will be cloudy in southeast England with rain and drizzle at times. There will be a few coastal showers elsewhere but it will otherwise be a mainly cool and dry day with bright or sunny spells.

High pressure will build over the weekend bringing generally dry weather. It will be fairly cloudy with some sunny intervals though the odd shower is possible on Saturday, turning colder with frosts overnight.

Next week will begin mostly dry with clouds and some sunny spells. The sunniest weather is likely to be in the north and west. Elsewhere, it will be mostly cloudy with a cold easterly breeze developing in the south.

By the middle of next week, the wind should ease and, with high pressure in charge, there should be a good deal of dry weather. Cloud amounts will continue to be quite variable, but all areas should see some sunshine at times.

It will be much colder than recently, with frost probably becoming quite widespread and freezing fog possible in places. Beyond next week, conditions are likely to remain cold, with an increasing chance of some snow showers, developing particularly in the north.
