Las Vegas GP qualifying LIVE: Lewis Hamilton baffled as George Russell gives Mercedes hope

Lewis Hamilton will have high hopes of challenging for pole at the Las Vegas Grand Prix after Mercedes roared into life in this morning’s final practice session. George Russell managed to top the standings ahead of Oscar Piastri, with Max Verstappen ending up in fourth after struggling to make the most of Red Bull’s pace in Sin City.

Hamilton, meanwhile, was only eighth and seemed perplexed over the radio as he questioned his gap to Russell, who was over seven-tenths quicker than his Mercedes team-mate. The seven-time champion will be desperately hoping to improve his pace in qualifying, with the Silver Arrows having shown they are quick enough to challenge Verstappen for pole at F1’s newest street circuit.

Williams also looked stronger than usual in FP3, with Logan Sargeant coming home in third while Alex Albon was sixth but was forced to end his session early after crashing into the wall. The incident brought out the red flags and marked the first time any driver had crashed on the high-speed Las Vegas circuit, with top speeds reaching around 212 miles per hour.
