Lady Louise might follow Prince William's example for university accommodation next year

Lady Louise Windsor, the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, has just finished her first year of undergraduate study at the University of St Andrews.

The 19-year-old began her studies in English last September when she enrolled at the esteemed institution.

But before starting her second year, Lady Louise will need to make a significant choice this summer.

Students typically have to arrange their own housing for the final two years of their course, unlike the majority of undergraduates who reside in campus residence halls for their first year.

By attending the University of St Andrews, where Prince William met his future wife, Kate Middleton, Lady Louise has followed in the footsteps of her cousin.

The Princess of Wales earned a 2:1 in art history in 2005, while the Prince of Wales earned a 2:1 in geography.

The two initially resided at St Salvator’s Halls of Residence, also referred to as Sallies, while attending the university in Fife.

Lady Louise was also reportedly staying at Sallies during her first year. The 19-year-old had a sad start to her Freshers Week, due to the death of her grandmother Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

After their first year, William and Kate moved together with two of their pals in a rented Victorian terraced home near the university, with the address 13A Hope Street.

This is a trajectory that Lady Louise could follow for the next academic year. Other royals like Princess Beatrice lived at home during her university years, as she was studying in London and also lived in St James’s Palace.

Louise, however, is studying in Scotland and her family home is in Windsor, so that would not be practical.

In their final year together, Kate and William, who started dating in 2003, lived with friends in a four-bedroom cottage on the Strathtyrum Estate named Balgove House.

This could also be an option for 19-year-old Louise, should she want to do a house share.

Since graduating, William and Kate have visited their university numerous times, including right before their royal wedding in 2011.

During their tour of Scotland in 2021, the couple also went on a stroll down memory lane in St Andrews.

The night before their arrival, the couple was even seen leaving Forgan’s restaurant after a romantic lunch.

Kate and William famously enjoyed dining there during their four-year degree in Scotland.
