Labour MP compares eco-loons to ‘virus’ after they call for protests outside MPs’ homes

Just Stop Oil has been blasted by a Labour MP after the extremist group reiterated calls for protests and intimidation outside MPs’ homes.

The eco-loons’ new plan emerged last week, when undercover journalists were told by unsuspecting activists that they plan a secret blitz to “occupy the homes of MPs”.

However, the refusal of the police to intervene while the home of Tobias Ellwood MP was under siege by 100 Palestine activists has sparked renewed fears about the safety of MPs.

This week, Sir Lindsay Hoyle came close to losing his job as Speaker of the Commons, after he changed rules due to fears of death threats to MPs if they were unable to vote for Labour’s ceasefire amendment.

In a column for The Guardian this week, Sarah Lunnon said JSO would be asking Labour MPs “at their offices, in their constituencies, and at their homes to find their courage – and end the Tory oil and gas policies that are wrecking stable society”.

North London MP Stella Creasy has now slammed Just Stop Oil as evidence of an “infection in our body politic”.

Speaking on Radio 4, Ms Creasy also criticised the Guardian for running the piece in the first place.

“There is an infection in our body politic. If you want any evidence of that, the Guardian newspaper has today without any particular comment.

‘And I am quite terrified of raising this because I realise this puts me in the sight lines of the organisation behind it.

‘They’ve published an opinion piece calling for Labour MPs to be targeted in their homes.’

She demanded to know: “Where does this end?”

This morning, Ms Lunnon not only doubled down on her threat to MPs but said she’d be “delighted” if people were to protest outside her home.

Asked by Nick Robinson how she would feel if he and a group of his friends picketed her private family home, she replied: “Nick, if you want to come outside my house, I would be delighted to meet you”.

“If you come and do that non-violently, absolutely, come and stand outside my house, of course.”

She argued that while people have a right to privacy and safety, there “comes a point where we are not safe in our homes”.

“I think we have a duty to do everything we can, non-violently, to make sure we are protected.

“And if that means asking MPs at their homes to commit to ending Tory oil and gas, then I think that’s an okay thing to do.”

In June 2023, it was reported that Stella Creasy was among 10 Labour MPs who vowed to promote the policies of Extinction Rebellion.

She signed a pledge of allegiance with the eco-extremists, including the promise to vote for legislation to make Britain Net Zero by 2025 – 25 years earlier than the Government’s target.
