At a debate in 2018, when Jeremy Corbyn was leader, hundreds of Labour members unfurled flags and chanted pro-Palestine slogans.
Delegates this week will be asked to approve a draft manifesto calling for a negotiated agreement recognising the state of Palestine alongside the state of Israel – stating that “Labour condemns the use of violence against civilians in this conflict”.
A Labour veteran said: “I would expect an effort to try to stop people bringing Palestinian flags in. They won’t want that as a scene.”
Leader Keir Starmer last night condemned Hamas, saying: “There is no justification for this act of terror.”
However, Mr Corbyn issued a statement failing to condemn the terrorist group. Posting on X (Twitter), he described the slaughter as “unfolding events” and declined to criticise Hamas or acknowledge their victims.
