Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has accused Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho of letting their standards drop in a bizarre and now-deleted social media post. Scholes told the young Red Devils duo that they cannot train properly while wearing hoods.
Mainoo and Garnacho have been two of United’s best performers this season, providing rare highlights in a poor season for Erik ten Hag’s side. But that has not shielded them from the wrath of Scholes.
The pair were pictured in a recent training session wearing the hoods of their United-branded hoodies. It is unclear if they were taking part in a drill at the time of the snap, or if they were simply socialising.
Former midfielder Scholes was unhappy with the two academy graduates, though, and even went as far as suggesting that they were letting standards drop by wearing their hoods. The 11-time Premier League winner ended his post with “bye”, which may suggest he wants the pair discarded by Ten Hag.
Scholes shared the picture on his Instagram story before tearing into Mainoo and Garnacho. “Don’t mind hats and gloves but no way can you train properly with your hoods up,” Scholes wrote. “Standards begin on the training pitch… Bye!”
