King’s Guard leads touching tribute to Elton John by playing iconic song outside Palace

Captured on camera by adoring music and royal fans alike, the King’s Guard led a touching tribute to Sir Elton John, ahead of his music finale at Glastonbury.

Outside Buckingham Palace on June 25, the contingent played a version of the 1972 hit ‘Crocodile Rock’ on the trumpet.

The touching rendition was played just hours before Elton’s musical medley finale at one of the UK’s biggest music festivals.

The footage was captured by a video creator, Shimmy Socol, who recorded the royal rendition of Elton’s musical number. It shows a conductor directing the smash hit with passersby stopping to watch, listen and dance.

He was on his way to Glastonbury and claims he was “totally surprised” by the rendition. The content creator says he has also filmed content for Elton John in the past.

Elton John took to the Pyramid stage for the Sunday headliner with the final UK show of his farewell tour.

Fans started to claim front-row spots early in the morning to see the singer’s show, before the packed crowds arrived. Joining the 100,000 attendees, was his husband Furnish and his children.

Celebrity pals in attendance included David Williams and the Spice Girls, who reportedly joined him for an after-party following the show.

Celebrities including Paul McCartney, Taron Egerton and Andrew Garfield were also spotted backstage watching the show before attending Elton’s bash.

Sir Elton John’s Glastonbury performance is expected to set the record for the most-watched set of all time, smashing Glastonbury records.

In a podcast, hosted by Watford DV footballer, Troy Deeney, Elton expressed his relief with the tour coming to an end.

He said: “’The last time I have to sing ‘Crocodile Rock’ I will probably throw a party. But people love to hear it. It was written as a kind of joke, as a pastiche, and it became a big hit and people love to sing along with it.”

He added: “But I have to say when the last show is done at the end of the tour I will never ever sing that song again.”

In an emotional speech, Elton walked onto the stage in a gold suit as fireworks went off, before saying he never thought he would play the festival for a “special and emotional” show.

He later removed his famous red-tinted glasses to wipe away tears as his musical guests paid tribute to him on stage.

During the course of the performance, he said: “It’s a very special and emotional night for me because it might be my last show ever in England, so I had better play well, and I had better entertain you, you’ve been standing there so long, and I really appreciate all the outfits and everything.”
