King Charles's lavish Palace of Versailles banquet 'moved over fears of violence'

A lavish ceremony to mark King Charles’s visit to France is set to be moved away from the Palace of Versailles after threats of violence from protesters and trade unions angry over President Emmanuel Macron’s pension reforms.

The King and Camilla, the Queen Consort, were due to attend a sumptuous banquet and concert on Monday to mark the monarch’s first State Visit to any country.

However, recent widespread rioting across France is said to have made the engagement “too risky” for security forces to allow it to go ahead as planned.
