King Charles, who is also battling cancer, is said to be “utterly determined” to show the public that the monarchy is still stable following several setbacks.
A royal source said he will put on a show of unity for his family and reassure the public as he’s set to make a public appearance.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the King, health permitting, will be attending the annual Easter service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor next Sunday.
The King has taken a step back from public duties after being diagnosed with cancer following treatment for an enlarged prostate.
The annual Easter Sunday church service is still set to go ahead, though it’s not thought Prince William will make an appearance as he spends time with Princess Kate and his children at their home in Norfolk.
The family has been left in turmoil after both King Charles and the Princess of Wales were diagnosed with cancer.
Kate’s shock announcement came on Friday evening in a two-minute video, where she said she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy after doctors found cancer had been present during an abdominal procedure in January.
There is no timeline as to when Kate will return to public duties, though it likely won’t be for several months.
His Majesty is said to be a huge support for Kate at this time, as a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said he is “so proud of Catherine,” and has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks”.
A royal source told The Mirror: “The King has been keeping in touch with the Princess of Wales from the moment she was admitted to hospital in January and throughout her current cancer treatment.
“He is utterly determined to put on a show of unity for his family and reassure the public and wider world that the monarchy is stable, despite the current tumultuous period it is experiencing.”
They continued: “The King is very much hoping he will be able to make the Easter church service but will make a final decision on the day.”
King Charles has also taken a step back from public duties, undergoing treatment in private.
