King Charles unlikely to 'close door' on Sussexes despite 'difficult' Prince Harry

King Charles is unlikely to close the door on his son Prince Harry and grandchildren Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet even as the ongoing rift between them shows no signs of abating.

Prince Harry will reportedly call his father for his 75th birthday on November 14, while other Royal Family members gather for a private dinner to celebrate the occasion.

While details of how often the estranged father and son speak are not known, it is believed the last time they saw each other was at the King’s coronation on May 6, 2023.

King Charles also hasn’t seen his grandchildren, Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two, since the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

Continual questions have be raised over whether the relationship will ever be mended following the Duke of Sussex’s departure from royal life, which has only been made worse by a spate of TV interviews and his memoir, Spare.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has said that despite the sourness between them, the King is unlikely to stop all communication with his youngest son and his family.

“The King is unlikely to close the door to contact,” Fitzwilliam told Express.co.uk. “He would naturally be delighted to see Archie and Lili.”

“He will, not, however, have forgotten how difficult the behaviour of the Sussexes made the Queen’s last years.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal fold in March 2020, escaping Britain for Canada before settling in Montecito, California.

Fitzwilliams said their relationship is unlikely to be repaired due to a lack of “mutual trust” thanks to Prince Harry’s actions during the final years of Queen Elizabeth II’s life.

Famously, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle sat down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they claimed a variety unpleasant things had happened to them, including a senior family member speculating on the colour of Prince Archie’s skin prior to his birth.

“They [the Sussexes] want some sort of an apology which they won’t get,” Fitzwilliams remarked.

“At present there is simply no mutual trust and that makes contact very difficult,” adding that a near future meeting between them is “unlikely.”
