King Charles to meet with President Zelensky today in surprise UK visit

Volodymyr Zelensky’s surprise visit to the UK will include an audience with King Charles, royal aides have confirmed. The president of Ukraine touched down this morning at London Stansted Airport to begin his first official visit to Britain since Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of his country.

The Ukrainian President arrived in a Boeing C-17A Globemaster III plane and has a day packed with events ahead of him.

He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Downing Street and deliver a speech at the Houses of Parliament.

The president of the war-torn country will also visit Ukrainian troops taking part in the first official training programme for Ukraine’s pilots on Western aircraft held by the British armed forces.

This training will allow the pilots to be able to fly sophisticated NATO-standard jets.

The meeting between President Zelensky and King Charles will take place this afternoon at Buckingham Palace.

His trip comes after Mr Sunak announced the UK will send more military equipment to Kyiv that would support a potential new Russian offensive in the spring.

Britain, the Prime Minister also said, would expand training to Ukrainian fighter pilots and marines and promised a long-term investment in Ukraine’s military.
