King Charles 'teary-eyed' after cancer news as sons' relationship 'still in the gutter'

Russell Myers appeared on ITV’s Lorraine today to discuss King Charles’s welfare following the “stressful” news of his cancer diagnosis. The royal correspondent noted that the monarch appeared “teary-eyed” and “emotional” as he drove by.

King Charles is said to be in regular communication with his eldest son Prince William, while his younger son Prince Harry flew in from the USA yesterday to spend time with his father. However, Russell has claimed that Prince William and Prince Harry are unlikely to reunite despite it being a difficult time for their family.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, the royal expert instead insisted that the two brothers’ relationship was “in the gutter”, warning that there was “no way back” if they could not put their differences aside amid their father’s ill health.

Speaking about recent pictures of King Charles being driven to Buckingham Palace, Russell noted: “Without reading too much into it [the pictures] tell a thousand words. He looked very emotional, I thought he looked teary-eyed.”

He continued: “Undoubtedly, this is a very emotional, stressful time for the King and the rest of the Royal family, so all of our best wishes are with him.” He then went on to speculate that the monarch’s meeting with Prince Harry yesterday was “quite significant”.

“Harry didn’t give out a statement or fly over here when [King Charles] was undergoing treatment for the enlarged prostate – and now, because of the cancer diagnosis, he’s here.

Russell went on to point out that it not yet known how long Prince Harry will stay in the UK while his wife Meghan Markle remains in their US home with children Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2.

“It will be very interesting to see if he stays for a few more days,” Russell commented. “Who is he going to see?

“One person he won’t be seeing is his brother Prince William. 100%. Prince William is obviously a very busy man and taking on more duties, looking after Kate [Middleton] and the kids…”

Lorraine then interjected: “I just think if they don’t see each other now, I don’t think they’ll ever see each other.”

“You’re totally right,” Russell agreed. “That relationship is pretty much in the gutter.

“There is possibly no way back. If there’s a chance for reconciliation, it might be between Harry and his father. I don’t think there’s going to be one with William.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
