King Charles showcases one 'very sweet' quality after double royal health scare

King Charles and Queen Camilla made a “very sweet” gesture towards Princess Kate during the monarch and future queen’s health scares, a royal expert has said. Biographer Angela Levin praised Charles and Camilla for visiting Kate’s bedside ahead of the monarch’s own surgery for an enlarged prostate.

She told GB News on Monday (January 29): “It’s very sweet that they went to see Catherine at 8.45 when he arrived for the operation on Friday.”

Princess Kate and King Charles reportedly share a warm relationship, with the monarch and his daughter-in-law having made their affection for one another apparent on a number of occasions in public. The king is believed to admire how Kate is raising her children.

Ms Levin, who has written a number of books about the royals, including a profile of Prince Harry, also paid tribute to Queen Camilla for ignoring royal protocol by visiting the King during his stay at The London Clinic.

The author said: “It’s very touching that Camilla’s ignored all the protocol – that you don’t go with your husband [into hospital] if he’s a king or you’re a queen – and has been to visit him several times.

“Three times on the first day, two on the Saturday and yesterday twice as well. She wants to sit there and be with him.”

Ms Levin went on to describe an exchange she had with Camilla who she said told her one of the king and queen’s favourite things is reading in silence by an open fire when they’re in Scotland. She commented: “It’s so lovely.”

The King spent three nights at the private hospital in central London, leaving earlier on Monday (January 29).

Charles, 75, smiled and waved to a few members of the public as he left with the queen by his side. Buckingham Palace said he would now have a “period of private recuperation”.

The Palace said in a statement: “The King was this afternoon discharged from hospital following planned medical treatment and has rescheduled forthcoming public engagements to allow for a period of private recuperation.

“His Majesty would like to thank the medical team and all those involved in supporting his hospital visit, and is grateful for all the kind messages he has received in recent days.”

He left The London Clinic a few hours after the Princess of Wales was discharged from the same hospital, almost two weeks after undergoing abdominal surgery.

Kate, 42, is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter. The Prince of Wales has temporarily stepped back from his royal role to juggle caring for her and their children.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: “The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress.

“The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided.

“The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.”
